What the extension does

  • Right-click any image

Choose "Edit image with Photoclay" on any picture to open it straight in the Photo Editor, or pick Compress, Resize, Crop, Remove background, Upscale and more.

  • Screenshot and edit

Capture the visible part of the page you are on and open it in the Photo Editor to crop, annotate or blur it.

  • Every tool one click away

The toolbar button opens the Photo Editor or any popular Photoclay tool in a new tab.

How it works

  1. Add Photoclay to Chrome from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Right-click an image on any website and choose "Edit image with Photoclay".
  3. The image opens in the Photoclay Photo Editor, where you edit and download it. Nothing is uploaded.

Permissions, and why they are needed

The extension asks for as little as possible and only acts when you click it.

Context menus
Adds "Edit image with Photoclay" and "Screenshot this page" to the right-click menu.
Active tab
Lets the extension capture a screenshot of the current tab, and only after you click the screenshot button or menu item.
Storage
Holds the image for a few seconds in temporary browser memory while the Photoclay tab opens. It is deleted as soon as the tab picks it up, after five minutes at most, and whenever Chrome closes.
Optional: read images on a site
Some websites block other pages from reading their images. Only then does Chrome ask whether Photoclay may read images from that one site. You can decline, or remove it later in the extension settings.

Extension privacy policy

Last updated:

The Photoclay Chrome extension does not collect, store, sell or share personal data, browsing history or images. It contains no analytics or advertising code and loads no code from the internet.

When you choose a Photoclay menu item or button, the extension reads only the image you picked, or captures the visible tab when you ask for a screenshot. It keeps that image in Chrome's temporary session storage and hands it to the photoclay.com tab it opens. The image is deleted as soon as that tab receives it, after five minutes at most, and whenever Chrome closes. Only photoclay.com can request it, using a single-use code.

Links opened by the extension include campaign tags (such as utm_source=chrome-extension) so that photoclay.com's own analytics can count visits that came from the extension. Those tags carry no personal data.

How photoclay.com itself handles data is described in the site privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Photoclay Chrome extension free?

Yes. The extension and every Photoclay tool are free, with no account, watermark or usage limit.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The extension passes the image directly to the Photoclay tab in your own browser, and all editing runs on your device. Neither the extension nor photoclay.com sends your images to a server.

Does the extension collect data or track my browsing?

No. It has no analytics, reads no pages, and only acts when you click its button or menu items. It does not collect, store or share personal data.

Why does the extension sometimes ask for permission to read a site?

Some websites block other pages from reading their images. When that happens, Photoclay asks for access to that one site, so it can read the image you right-clicked. Access is optional and you can remove it at any time.

Which tools can I open from the right-click menu?

Photo Editor (the default), Compress, Resize, Crop, Remove background, Upscale, Convert to JPG, Blur faces, Add watermark and Rotate. Every other Photoclay tool is available from the toolbar button.
